The white grape variety is a new variety between Bouquettraube (Bukettrebe) x Cortiller Musqué Précoce (Muscat Précoce de Saumur). Synonyms are Frühmuscat, Frühmuskat Oberlin, Misket Oberlin, Muscat Hatif, Muscat Oberlin, Muskat Früh, Muskat Früh Oberlin and Oberlin's Muscat. The cross was made by the French grower Christian Oberlin (1831-1915) in Colmar (Alsace, France).

The early-maturing vine is sensitive to powdery mildew (Oidium) and downy mildew (Peronospora). It produces fragrant white wines with a pronounced muscat flavour.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
