The "Franz Friedrich-Kern" winery is located in the municipality of Bernkastel-Wehlen in the German Moselle wine-growing region. A Friedrich winery was mentioned in documents as early as 1753 and is still family-owned today. In 1938, Franz Friedrich married into the long-established Kern winery, resulting in the double name. Today it is run by Franz-Josef Kern. A wine tavern is attached to the estate. The vineyards cover five hectares in the Himmelreich (Graach and Zeltingen), Johannisbrünnchen (Bernkastel) and Sonnenuhr (Wehlen) sites. They are 90% planted with Riesling, as well as some Rivaner, Dunkelfelder and Dornfelder. The focus is on dry wines, complemented by fruit-sweet specialities from Spätlese to Trockenbeerenauslese. The wines are matured in traditional wooden barrels in the old vaulted cellar. The flagship of the house is the dry and terroir-accentuated "Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling S", which is vinified from over 80-year-old ungrafted vines.
