The winery is located in the municipality of Denzlingen (Breisgau area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden. In 1970, Otto and Martha Frey took over what was then a mixed farm with viticulture, fruit growing and calf fattening, and two years later the farm building was moved away from the centre of the village. After a five-year apprenticeship as a farmer and winemaker and subsequent studies to become a technician for viticulture and cellar management at the State Technical College in Weinsberg, the farm is now run by Martin Frey.

The vineyards cover 12 hectares of vineyards in the single vineyards Eichberg with the vineyards Steinhalde, Hummelgarten and Wisser-Eck (Glottertal), Sonnhalde with the vineyards Gneis and Reichenbächle (Denzlingen and Sexau), and Sonnenberg (Gundelfingen). Around 60% of these are steep slopes. They are planted with the white wine varieties Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Auxerrois, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Müller-Thurgau, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir and Merlot. For new plantings, small and loose grapevine clones are preferred, which experience has shown to have more aromas. To improve quality, they are cultivated with a higher vine density of 5,000 to 5,500 vines per hectare and managed in an environmentally friendly way.
