Producer description of "Weingut Frauwallner"

The winery is located in the municipality of Straden in the Austrian wine-growing region of Vulkanland Steiermark. It is managed by Walter Frauwallner. The logo of a sun with a wreath of leaves, introduced in 2017, is intended to symbolise the appreciation with nature and the integrated place name the exclusive production of wines of origin. The vineyards cover 24 hectares of vineyards in the Stradner Rieden Buch, Rosenberg and Steintal on calcareous to volcanic soils. They are 90% planted with the white wine varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Welschriesling, Sämling 88 (Scheurebe), Müller-Thurgau, Gelber Muskateller, Morillon (Chardonnay), Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) and Traminer, and 10% with the red wine varieties Blauer Wildbacher, Zweigelt and Merlot. The quality criteria in the vineyard are sensitive leaf care by hand, consistent yield reduction and selective hand harvesting. Depending on the type of wine with a Styrian character, the wines are matured fruity in stainless steel tanks, the site wines partly also in barrique barrels. The premium wines include the white wines Sauvignon Blanc Ried Rosenberg, Sauvignon Blanc Ried Buch and Weißburgunder Ried Buch, the red wine cuvée Eruption Rot (Zweigelt, Merlot) and the red wine Blauer Wildbacher Ried Buch. Sparkling wines, noble brandies (Glöger, Traube, Trester) and pumpkin seed oil are also produced. The winery is a member of Steirische Terroir & Klassikweingüter.
