Fonte Cal

The white grape variety originates from Portugal. Synonyms are Fonte de Cal, Fonte dea Cal, Fontecal and Rabigata. The origin (parentage) is unknown. It was first mentioned in documents in 1790. The medium-ripening vine is moderately susceptible to both types of mildew. It yields aromatic white wines with moderate acidity and ageing potential with appropriate ace cultivation. The variety is cultivated in the Beira Interior and Península de Setúbal areas. In 2016, 52 hectares of vines were reported, with a strong downward trend (Kym Anderson statistics).
