The white grape variety originates from Portugal. Synonyms are Alligator, Babosa, Bourmel, Couche, Dona Branca, Folha de Figo, Malvasia de Porto, Prieto Picudo, Prieto Picudo Blanco and Tortozon. It must not be confused with the varieties Dona Bran ca, Godello (Prieto Picudo Blanco) or Tamarez (Folha de Figueira), despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities. The parentage is unknown. The vine is a parent of the varieties Alarije, Albillo Real and Merseguera. The variety is threatened with extinction; in 2016, only two hectares of vines were reported in the Beira Interior area in Portugal (Kym Anderson statistics).
