Fireplace

Designation for the space between the surface of the poured wine and the top edge of a wine glass. A bulbous glass shape with a large diameter of the goblet and a large chimney allow the aromas in the wine to develop optimally. This is why red wine glasses have a bulbous shape and white wine glasses a slimmer shape. See also under wine enjoyment and wine vessels.
