Finca Allende

The winery is located in the municipality of Briones, eight kilometres from the town of Haro in the Spanish Rioja sub-region Rioja Alta. The Spanish "allende" means "further" and this is also the philosophy of the owner family. The de Gregorio family has been growing wine in Rioja for many generations. In 1995, Miguel Ángel de Gregorio bought an old winery building in Briones and started to recultivate small plots of land with old vines. The wine cellar, which dates from 1760, was extended and renovated. The vineyards now cover 42 hectares of vines, mainly Tempranillo and some Graciano. In the traditional winemaking process, the grapes are not destemmed and are fermented in open concrete tanks for two to three weeks, with constant movement of the must. The wines mature for between ten and fifteen months depending on the vintage. For the ageing process, 2,200 barrique barrels are available, 80% of which are made of French oak and 20% of American oak from Virginia. They are used a maximum of four times. Certain wines are bottled without filtration in order to preserve the fullness of taste. About 75% of the production is exported.
