An old measure of area that varied greatly from region to region. In Prussia this was 0.225 and in Saxony 0.553 hectares. This was used to describe an area that could be worked in a certain period of time (half day or day) with a team. In terms of meaning and size, the old area measurements of yoke and acre, as well as the Anglo-American linguistically related acre, are quite similar. The yoke in turn corresponds to 1,600 square kilometres. The long fathom corresponds to an arm span of 1.9 metres. See also under units of measurement.
