Single vineyard designation in Germany. In addition to those listed, there are also some in the municipalities of Duchroth (Nahe), Ediger and Ernst (Mosel). In the Palatinate wine-growing region, there is a Großlage called Feuerberg.
The name is derived from the volcanic soil. The vineyards, which face south-west to south on the slope and west on the flat area, cover 83 hectares of vines at an altitude of 200 to 240 metres above sea level with a slope of 0 to 45%. The south-west facing plots in the upper third are protected from cold northerly winds. Due to its size, the site is inhomogeneous; the two parcels Haslen with eight hectares and Kesselberg with seven hectares of vineyards are considered to be the best. The eponymous dark and heat-retaining volcanic weathered soils have a loess layer on the slopes. The main varieties cultivated here are Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. Members of the WG Burkheimer Winzer am Kaiserstuhl and the Bercher and Bercher-Schmidt wineries, for example, have shares in the site.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
