Brand name for a dry red wine marketed on the Croatian island of Hvar by the winery Dalmacijavina in Starigrad. The Greeks brought viticulture to the island, then named Dimos, as early as 600 BC and founded Polis Pharos - today's Starigrad - from which the name is derived. The cultivation area is flat and sandy. The red wine is made from the autochthonous Plavac Mali grape variety. The Vinarija Plancic winery produces a similar wine called "Pharion". See also under the wines Dingac and Postup, which are made from the same variety.
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
