Family business in the municipality of Pesquera de Duero in the Castilla y León region in the DO area of Ribera del Duero in the north of Spain. It was acquired in 1972 by Alejandro Fernández, a trained agricultural machinery technician who had made a fortune with the invention of agricultural machinery for sugar beet, and Esperanza Rivera. The origin was a small winery made of natural stone from the 16th century, the current parent estate Tinto Pisquera. The estate comprises four wineries and the "AF Pesquera" hotel. Alongside Vega Sicilia, Alejandro Fernández is considered an important pioneer of the modern Ribera del Duero wine style. He is also known as the "Rey del Tempranillo" (King of Tempranillo). The three granddaughters of Esperanza Rivera and Alejandro Fernández took over the management in 2019. The vineyards cover a total of 220 hectares of vines. Tempranillo is cultivated in all four wineries, and the white variety AirénAirén kultiviert.
