The white grape variety probably originates from Italy, although there are two different varieties.
The name of this certainly very old vine is derived from the ancient vine training "Phalange" (tied to the stake). According to one hypothesis, it is a descendant of the ancient Aminea variety, which was used for the white version of the famous Falerno wine in ancient Rome. It is said to have been introduced from Greece as early as the 7th century. In the 17th century, it was mentioned in a poem by Giulio C. Cortese (1570-1640).
The late-ripening vine is moderately resistant to both types of mildew, but is susceptible to grape rot. It produces fragrant, acidic white wines with stone fruit and apricot...
