Falanghina Beneventana

The white grape variety originates from Italy. For a long time, the two varieties Falanghina Beneventana and Falanghina Flegrea were regarded as a single variety; see Falanghina.

Origin

The name of this certainly very old vine is derived from the ancient vine training "Phalange" (tied to the stake). According to one hypothesis, it is a descendant of the ancient Aminea variety, which was used for the white version of the famous Falerno wine in ancient Rome. It is said to have been introduced from Greece as early as the 7th century. In the 17th century, it was mentioned in a poem by Giulio C. Cortese (1570-1640).

Characteristics

The late-ripening vine is moderately resistant to both types of mildew, but is susceptible to grape rot. It produces fragrant, acidic white wines with stone fruit and apricot...
