Evviva

A common toast in Malta (i.e. "long live" or "here's to life"); for other countries, see toasts.

In almost every language, there are toasts that are used when drinking alcoholic beverages or raising a glass. The most common wishes are for good health and general well-being. The so-called toast is an age-old custom, ever since humans and alcohol have existed. In quite a few toasts, the consumption of even excessive amounts of alcohol is described as unproblematic and positive. We would therefore like to point this out: Alcohol is an excellent solvent. It dissolves families, marriages, friendships, work relationships, bank accounts, livers and brain cells. It just doesn't solve any problems. However, this is by no means to question the moderate consumption of wine.

Trinksprüche - Sektgläser mit Sprüchen, In Vino Veritas

Probably the best known and most quoted saying about wine In vino veritas is attributed to the Greek lyricist Alcaeus (630-580 BC) from the island of Lesbos and means "In wine lies truth".

Proverbs & rhymes

May your path be made easy, may the wind always carry you from behind,
may the sun shine warmly on your face, may gentle rain bless your fields.
And until we meet again, may God hold you protectively in his hand. Cheers to you!

To the centre, to the tit, to the sack, zack zack. With this in mind - off to the gutter.

We wish all women that they are surrounded only by beautiful, exotic animals. That they have a jaguar in the garage, a tiger in bed, a sable around their shoulders and, above all, a donkey that can pay for everything (Russian source).

People drink, horses drink, but sometimes it's the other way round.

Drink, smoke, kiss, jeer, ride a motorbike and overtake,
everything brings you to St Peter in the ether - whether early or late.

With a stiff arm to the stiff centre, according to old custom and fathers' custom.
