The red grape variety is a new variety between Mavrud x Merlot. Synonyms are Evmolpiya and Thracian Mavrud. The cross was made in Bulgaria by the breeder Dimitiar Babrikov. Plant variety protection was granted in 1991. The early to medium ripening vine is relatively resistant to Botrytis. It produces full-bodied, neutral red wines with moderate tannin and alcohol content. It is cultivated in Bulgaria; small populations are also said to exist in the USA and Australia. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
