The red grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Beccu de l'Aduï, Betu, Etraire de la Dot, Etraire de la Dû, Etraire de la Due, Etraire de la Duï, Etraire de la Duy, Gros Persan and Grosse Etraire. According to DNA analyses, there is a parent-offspring relationship between Etraire de l'Aduï and Persan. BVsumably it is an open-pollinated Persan seedling. The medium-maturing vine is sensitive to winter frost. It produces dark-coloured, tannin-rich red wines with a spicy aroma. The variety is permitted in the Vin de Savoie. Before the phylloxera disaster, it was widespread in the Département Isère between Rhône and Savoie. In 2016, however, only five hectares of vines were designated (Kym Anderson).
