The "Karl Erbes Riesling Winery" is located in the municipality of Ürzig (Bernkastel area) in the German Moselle wine-growing region. The family business was founded in 1967 by the trained master cooper Karl Erbes, and since 2002 it has been run by son Stefan as a trained cellar master. The vineyards cover 4.5 hectares of vines on partly extremely steep slopes in the single vineyard sites Treppchen (Erden) and Würzgarten (Ürzig). They are planted exclusively with ungrafted, some of them 70- to 80-year-old Riesling vines. Particular importance is attached to low yields and selective manual harvesting. The wines are traditionally matured in large oak barrels. Around 70% of the production is exported to Japan, the Netherlands, Great Britain and the USA.
