Engelberg

One of the Alsace (Bas-Rhin) sites classified as Grand Cru within the Alsace Grand Cru appellation. It was already mentioned in 884 and was then owned by several religious congregations. The steep and sunny vineyards cover 19 hectares of vineyards on limestone marl soil in the two communes of Dahlenheim and Scharrachbergheim. They are mainly planted with Gewürztraminer and Riesling, but also with Pinot Gris and Muscat Blanc. A well-known producer is Jean-Pierre Bechthold.
