Emir

The white grape variety originates from Turkey. Synonyms are Aküzüm and White Emir. According to one hypothesis, it was already appreciated in the time of the Hittite Empire (2nd millennium BC) and later in the Roman Empire. The origin (parentage) is unknown. The late-ripening, high-yielding vine is very susceptible to botrytis. It produces aromatic, acidic white wines with a lemon flavour. The variety is also well suited for sparkling wine production. It is also used as table grape. The variety is mainly cultivated in Central Anatolia in the provinces of Nevsehir and Nigde. There it is used in the brand wine Cankaya. In 2016, 89 hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson).
