Eighths

glass containing one eight of a litre, 0.125l (GB)
verre de vin de 0,125l (F)
bicchiere di vino da 0,125l (I)
Austrian designation (in dialect "Acht'l" or "Achterl") for a glass of wine with 0.125 l. The classic eighth is drunk from a glass that is stalkless up to the top. It is very popular as a so-called "Stehachterl" (standing at the bar) or Flucht-Achterl (quick glass before you leave). The next largest measure is a quarter with 0.25 l, which is usually drunk at the Heurigen. See also under wine vessels.
