Designation for a Jungwein that has not yet been bottled for general marketing in Flschenabfüllung and Etikett (for transportability, it is sometimes also bottled). This is handed over by the producers to journalists and professional Weinverkostung for an initial wine evaluation. This allows for initial statements about the quality and development potential of wines. However, such a wine may still require necessary development through bottle aging. Therefore, it is customary to taste and evaluate these wines again after an appropriate period (at least one year). For the possibility of subscription (pre-ordering and pre-selling of wines), such barrel wine samples are an absolute prerequisite.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
