Producer description of "Weingut Dr. Kauer"

The winery is situated in the wine-growing municipality of Bacharach in the Mittelrhein wine-growing region of Germany. Founded in 1982, the business is run by Dr Randolf, who also works as a professor of organic viticulture at Geisenheim University. Martina Kauer, a qualified restaurant manager, manages the administration and sales. They are supported by their daughters, Lena and Anne.

Vineyards & Grape Varieties

The vineyards cover four hectares of vineyard area, all on steep slopes. These are the individual sites of Beulsberg (Urbar), Kloster Fürstental and Wolfshöhle (Bacharach), Fürstenberg (Oberdiebach), and Oelsberg (Oberwesel). 95 per cent of the vineyards are planted with Riesling, with the small remainder planted with Spätburgunder. Organic viticulture is practised in accordance with the rules of the ECOVIN organic farming association. A yield limit of 50 to 60 hl/ha serves as the benchmark for quality.
