The winery is located in the municipality of Spitz on the Danube in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wachau. The estate in the Spitzer Graben dates back to the 16th century. The vineyards cover 6.5 hectares of vines in the Biern, Offenberg, Point and Setzberg vineyards (all in Spitz), as well as exclusively Grüner Veltliner in Loiben. The white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Neuburger are 100% cultivated. Grapes are also bought in. The management is based on the principle: "The quality of the wine is created in the vineyard". The wines are vinified according to variety and terroir, with as little intervention as possible in the cellar. The use of the vineyard's own yeast strains is intended to further increase the complexity and storability of the wines. It is Johann Donabaum's declared goal to exploit the enormous potential of the Neuburger variety through appropriate cultivation and selection. The winery is a member of Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus. The white wines are vinified in the three Vinea qualities Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd. Around 65,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
