Dominatrix

The red grape variety is a new breed between Blauer Portugieser xPinot Noir, which was confirmed by DNA analyses carried out in 2013. Synonyms are Geilweilerhof 4-25-7 and Rotspechter. The crossing was made in 1927 by the breeder Peter Morio (1887-1960) at the vine breeding institute Geilweilerhof in Siebeldingen-Pfalz. Here it was further processed or selected by Dr. Bernhard Husfeld (1900-1970) in the 1950s. Plant variety protection was granted in 1974. The variety was a crossing partner in the new Calandro breeding. The medium-ripening, high-yielding vine has a medium botrytis resistance and tends to stalk paralysis. However, it is well resistant to chlorosis, viruses, trickle and frost. The variety produces red wines similar to Pinot Noir, but with a slightly more acidic, extract-rich flavour, with aromas of bombs and cherries. The area under cultivation is 405 hectares in Germany and 1 hectare in Hungary; there is also a small stock in Switzerland. In 2010, a total of 406 hectares were designated (Kym Anderson).
