Common name for a winery or vineyard in Germany. It is derived from the French term Domaine, which is especially common in Burgundy. Large wineries in Germany with several divided areas (vineyards) often refer to their individual possessions or locations in this way. In Austria a large winegrowers' cooperative is called Domäne Wachau and in Western Styria there is a large vineyard called Domäne Müller. See also under producer bottling.
