DOCG area (also Dolcetto d'Ovada Superiore or Ovada) for red wine in the Italian region of Piedmont. The wine formerly included in the DOC area Dolcetto di Ovada was highly classified in 2008. The zone covers 35 hectares of vineyards on both sides of the Orba Valley in the province of Alessandria with the municipalities of Belforte Monferrato, Bosio, Capriata d'Orba, Carpeneto, Casaleggio Boiro, Cassinelle, Castelletto d'Orba, Cremolino, Lerma, Molare, Montaldeo, Montaldo Bormida, Morsasco, Mornese, Ovada, Parodi Ligure, Prasco, Roccagrimalda, San Cristoforo, Silvano d'Orba, Tagliolo Monferrato and Trisobbio If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna followed by the name of the vineyard can be indicated on the label.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
