single vineyard on the Blankenhornsberg (Kaiserstuhl area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden. It was created from 1842 onwards by the brothers Adolph Friedrich, Nicolaus and Wilhelm Blankenhorn, who planted the first vines on the reclaimed overgrown slope above the village of Ihringen in 1844. Adolph Friedrich's son, Professor Dr. Adolph Blankenhorn (1843-1906), used this vineyard early on for research and experimental purposes, from which the name is derived in his honour. His family had reclaimed the land for viticulture from 1842 and planted it from 1844. The vineyards, which are mainly oriented to the west and east, as well as in the form of an amphitheatre from west to south-east, at an altitude of 200 to 310 metres above sea level with a slope of 30 to 50%, cover 28 hectares of vineyards.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
