The red grape variety comes from Portugal. Synonyms are Borralho, Cascon, Cascon Tinto, Corbillon, Desconocida Escaleira, Doçal, Doçal Aragao, Doçal Grande, Doçal Graudo, Doçal Miudo, Doçar, Doçar Borrato, Espadeiro Doce, Estradeira, Folhal, Follajeiro, Verceiruda and Verdelho Doce. Although it appears to have synonyms or morphological similarities, it should not be confused with the Verdelho variety. A colour mutation is Doçal Blanco (Cascon Blanco). Nothing is known about a possible connection to the variety Doçal de Refóios. The late maturing, high-yielding vine produces ruby red wines. It is cultivated in the Vinho Verde area. In 2016, only 0.2 hectares of vineyard area were designated (Kym Anderson).
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
