The substance DMDC (also DMPC = dimethyl pyrocarbonate or pyrocarbonic acid dimethyl ester) is an ester of pyrocarbonic acid. The artificially produced substance is approved within the EU as food preservative E 242 (one of the best-known brands is Velcorin).
