The winery is located in the community of Großriedenthal in the Lower Austrian wine growing region of Wagram. The Hauerhaus dates back to the 17th century. The winery is managed by Karl Diwald senior. After internships in South Africa, the Californian Napa Valley and well-known Austrian companies, Karl Diwald junior is responsible for the vinification. The vineyards comprise 9.5 hectares of vineyards in the areas of Diebsnest, Eisenhut, Goldberg, Hinternberg and Wadenthal. They are planted to 70% with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Frühroter Veltliner, Gelber Muskateller and Rivaner, and 30% with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Blauer Portugieser. Quality criteria are short pruning, good care of the foliage, selective manual harvest and gentle fermentation. The leading Grüner Veltliner variety is produced in the five stages of maturation "Brise", "Classic", the "Riad'nthoi", "Wadental" and "Goldberg Reserve", which are aged in acacia barrels. The red wine cuvée "Tarra Rubra" is blended from Zweigelt, CS and Merlot". In addition, a bottle-fermented sparkling wine (Riesling, Chardonnay), grape juice and, in years with suitable weather, ice wine are also produced.
