The winery is located in the municipality of Siatista (Kozani Prefecture) in the west of the Greek region of Macedonia. It was founded in 2006 by Yiannis Boutaris (founder of the Kir Yianni Winery) and the married couple Yiannis Polizos and Georgia Goutziamani. Yiannis Boutaris was elected Mayor of Thessaloniki in autumn 2010, therefore Yiannis and Georgia now run the winery alone. The name "Dio Fili" means "The two friends" in Greek. The first bottling took place in 2007 and the vineyards, situated at an altitude of 950 meters above sea level, produce the white wine varieties Assyrtiko, Gewürztraminer and Moscato Bianco, as well as the red wine varieties Xynomavro, Moschomavro (Muscat Noir), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Pinot Noir. Speciality of the house are sweet wines, some of which are stored in old wooden barrels for up to ten years. These are, for example, a Liastos and the "To Kellari tou Tapnou", which is blended according to the Solera principle à la Sherry from wines of several years.
