French oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt (*1963) began his winemaking career in 1982, first as a harvest assistant and then in various roles at a number of wineries. From 1990, he worked at Château Pavie-Macquin as a cellar master and then as a winemaker at Neipperg family estates such as Château Canon-La-Gaffelière (Saint-Émilion). He started as a consultant in 1997 and two years later founded the consulting company "Vignerons Consultants" with his wife Christine. Subsequently, Derenoncourt worked for around 20 renowned wineries in Bordeaux, including Château Chambert, Château Jean Faure, Château Le Prieuré, Château Prieuré-Lichine, Château Smith-Haut-Lafitte, Château Vray Croix de Gay, Clos Fourtet and Domaine de Chevalier. He was hired by Francis Ford Coppola in 2008 for his winery. He has also consulted in China, India, Italy, Lebanon, Austria, Spain, Syria and Turkey. With his wife, he runs the wineries Domaine de l'A in the Castillon - Côtes de Bordeaux area and Derenoncourt California in the Napa Valley, as well as the distribution company "Terra Burdigala" for quality wines with the wine merchant François Thienpont.
