Deinhard Andreas

The German vineyard owner and politician Dr. phil Andreas Deinhard (1845-1907) was the grandson of Johann Friedrich Deinhard (1772-1827), who founded the trading and champagne house. After studying in Bonn and Heidelberg, he completed a viticulture internship in France, where he met Louis (1822-1895). In 1848 he married Auguste Jordan (of the dynasty), who contributed a substantial part of the property for Deinhard's vineyard to the marriage. In 1871 he took over his father's vineyard. By the end of the 19th century, he had expanded the business into one of the most important German quality wineries.

After him, his son-in-law Leopold von Winning (1873-1917) ran it under a new name. In 1917 the Dr. Deinhard Winery became the property of the Hoch family, who in turn named it "Dr. Deinhard" (today it is called ). In 1874, Dr. Andreas Deinhard was a co-founder of the German Winegrowers' Association. Through his political functions as a member of the Reichstag and Bavarian state parliament, he had a major influence on the first German wine law in 1901 and the . From 1898 to 1903 he represented the interests of German viticulture in the Reichstag.
