DC Pfalz

Abbreviation for "Districtus Controllatus Pfalz", a designation of origin and quality introduced in the German Pfalz growing region in 2005. It stands for outstanding quality and a regionally typical sensory profile. This applies to quality wines pressed according to specific criteria from the five grape varieties Dornfelder, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. The minimum must weights must be 75 °Oe for Dornfelder, 75 °Oe for Riesling and 80 °Oe for Burgundy. The actual alcohol content must be at least 12% vol. The white wines must not be dominated by a woody note, but must be fruity and typical of the region. The residual sugar content is subject to the legal limits for dry flavours. After the quality wine test there is a separate test according to the DLG's 5-point scheme. The DC Pfalz Commission consists of at least five examiners. The average score must be at least three points and the majority of the examiners must judge the stylistic requirement as fulfilled.
