Balloon bottle (wicker bottle ) made of glass or earthenware with a volume of usually five litres, which is wrapped with a bast or straw wickerwork. It is used for storing or serving simple wines. The French counterpart is called Dame-Jeanne (see there for the meaning of the name), the Italian counterpart is called Damigiana. See also complete lists under the keywords bottles and wine vessels.
