The red grape variety originates from Cyprus. Synonyms are Blue Cyprus Grape, Cipro Nero and Cypro Nero. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Parmak Cerven x Santa Paula (Cornichon Blanc). However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular Genetics). It should not be confused with the variety Mavro (also with synonym Blue Cyprus and Cyprus Grape); nothing is known about a possible genetic relationship. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
