DOC area for red and white wines in the Italian region of Lombardy. It was created with the high classification of Spumante Franciacorta at DOCG 1995 for still wines. The old name Terre di Franciacorta was changed to Curtefranca in 2008 to avoid confusion with the DOCG area. For a long time both names were used on the label, e.g. Terre di Franciacorta Curtefranca Rosso. The zone identical to Franciacorta comprises around 2.800 hectares of vineyards, including the municipalities of Adro, Capriolo, Cellatica, Corte Franca, Erbusco, Gussago, Iseo, Monticelli Brusati, Ome, Paderno Franciacorta, Paratico, Passirano, Provaglio d'Iseo and Rodengo-Saiano, as well as parts of Brescia, Cazzago San Martino, Coccaglio, Cologne and Rovato, on the southern edge of Lake Iseo in the province of Brescia.
