The wine-growing region is located in the south of Hungary in the Hungarian Plain (Alföld) on the border of Croatia. The climate is extremely dry with abundant sunshine. The vineyards on sandy loess cover 3,000 hectares of vines. The most important varieties are Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), Kövidinka, Rajnairizling (Rhine Riesling), Zöldveltelini (Grüner Veltliner) and Zweigelt. Mainly simple white wines are produced.
