The Hungarian grape breeder József Csizmazia (1918-2013) worked at the Research Institute for Viticulture and Enology in Eger. Here, he often created numerous new varieties in collaboration with breeders like Laszlo Bereznai during the 1960s and 1970s. These included Aron, Bianca, Bíborfrankos, Fanny, Goecseji Zamatos, Gárdonyi Géza, Gyöngyrizling, Lilla, Medina (1), Nero, Titan, Turán, Vertes Csillaga, Viktor, and Zala Gyöngye. The two varieties Eger 1 (open-pollinated seedling of Seyve-Villard 12-286) and Eger 2 (identical to Villard Blanc) were selected by him and used for breeding. Csizmazia received the Peter Morio Award in 1994 for his breeding achievements.
