Crâmpoșie

The white grape variety originates from Romania. Synonyms are Carloganca, Carloganga, Ciolan, Cirloganca, Crâmpoșie Mare, Crâmpoșie Mica, Crâmpoșie Veche, Crimpoșie, Crimpoșie Mare, Crimpoșie Mica, Kirloganze, Krampochia, Krimpochie, Krympochie, Krymposhie, Krymposhiya, Krymposhiya and Kyrloganke. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2021, it originates from a presumably natural cross between an unknown parent variety x Timpurie (Iordan). However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular genetics). In an earlier DNA analysis, however, Beala Debela was given as the mother variety. It is an all-female grape variety. An open-pollinated seedling is Crâmpoșie Selecționată. The variety was a crossing partner of the new varieties Timpuriu de Cluj and Unirea. The late-maturing vine is resistant to fungal diseases and drought. It produces acidic white wines with a pear flavour and a slightly bitter finish and is also used as table grape. The variety is mainly cultivated in the Drăgășani area, as well as Constanta and Panciu near the Black Sea coast. In 2021, 366 hectares of vineyards were designated in Romania (ONVPV).
