Cowra

A wine-growing area (GI) named after the town of the same name, north of Canberra in the Australian state of New South Wales, which is part of the Central Ranges zone. The city is also worth mentioning because the population is made up of 50 nations. The wine-growing region, which was only established in the 1970s, is growing rapidly. The climate is hot and dry, with a risk of spring frosts. The vineyards cover 800 hectares of vines in the gentle valleys of the Belabula River and Lachlan River. The main red wine varieties are Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the main white wine varieties are Chardonnay, Sémillon, Verdelho and Gewürztraminer. Well-known producers are Arrowfield, Brokenwood, Cowra Estate, Hungerford Hill, Richmond Grove, Rothbury Estate and Windowrie.
