Côtes de Gascogne

IGP area in the north of the department of Gers in the historic Gascony countryside in south-west France. It is part of the huge regional IGP area Comté Tolosan. In the past, the wine brandy Armagnac was predominantly produced here, but after the decline in demand, many producers switched to wine production. In the municipality of Sarragachies there is a very special vineyard with ancient vines or grape varieties. 80% of the white wines are blended from the Colombard, Gros Manseng, Sauvignon Bl anc and Ugni Blanc (Trebbiano Toscano) varieties. The red and rosé wines are mainly made from the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tannat varieties. Well-known producers are Domaine des Cassagnoles, Domaine du Joy, Domaine du Rey, Domaine de San de Guilhelm, Domaine du Tariquet, Producteurs Plaimont and Hugh Ryman.
