Côtes Catalanes covers almost the entire department of Pyrénées-Orientales, with the exception of the four communes of Banyuls-sur-Mer, Cerbère, Collioure and Port-Vendres (which form the Côte Vermeille IGP area). It produces mainly red wines and to a lesser extent rosé and white wines. The most important red wine varieties are Grenache Noir(Garnacha Tinta), Mourvèdre(Monastrell), Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Cinsaut. The most important white wine varieties are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Vermentino. Well known producers are Château La Casenove, Domaine Cazes, Domaine Ferrer-Ribière, Domaine Gauby, Mas Baux and Vignerons Catalans.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
