AOC area (also Coteaux Varois en Provence) in the centre of the French wine-growing region of Provence as an enclave within the AOC area Côtes de Prov ence. The vineyards cover 1,750 hectares of vines in 28 communes in the Var department, centred on Brignoles, once the summer residence of the Counts of Provence. The red wine, two-thirds of which is produced, is blended from 80% Mourvèdre (Monastrell), Syrah and Grenache Noir (Garnacha Tinta), as well as a maximum of 20% Cinsaut, Carignan Noir (Mazuelo) and Cabernet Sauvignon. The rosé consists of 70% Mourvèdre, Syrah and Grenache Noir, as well as a maximum of 30% Cinsaut, Carignan Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tibouren. The white wine is produced from max. 30% Vermentino, max. 30% Sémillon, max. 25% Ugni Blanc (Trebbiano Toscano), as well as Clairette and Grenache Blanc (Garnacha Blanca). Well-known producers are Domaine de Chaberts, Domaine du Deffends, Château la Galisse, Château Margillerie, Château Real Martin, Château Routas, Domaine de St-Jean, Château Thuerry and Doimaine de Valcolombe.
