Appellation in the south of the department of the same name in the region of south-west France. Viticulture in the Corrèze is documented as early as the 5th century, and in the 16th century the wines were praised by King Henry IV (1553-1610). In the 19th century, around 17,000 hectares were planted with vines, which, however, had almost disappeared by the end of the century for economic reasons due to the difficult cultivation of the steep slopes and phylloxera. It was not until the 2000s that vines were planted again. The former vin de pays or IGP (local wine) was then upgraded to AOC in 2017. The vineyards cover 71 hectares of vines in 21 communes. The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
