The appellation is located in the south of the French wine region Languedoc. It forms an enclave in the centre of the AOC Corbières. The red wine was classified as AOC in 2011. It belongs to the highest quality category "Crus du Languedoc". The vineyards cover 210 hectares of vineyards on a limestone massif. They cover the ten communes of Boutenac, Fabrezan, Ferrals-les-Corbières, Lézignan-Corbières, Luc-sur-Orbieu, Montséret, Ornaisons, Saint-André-de-Roquelongue, Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse and Thézan-des-Corbières in the department of Aude. The red wine is blended from Grenache Noir(Garnacha Tinta), Mourvèdre(Monastrell) and 30% to a maximum of 50% Carignan Noir(Mazuelo) with at least 70% together, and Syrah.
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
