The French Wine Brotherhood, based in Vouvray in the French region of the same name on the Loire, was founded in 1937 and revitalised after the Second World War by Gaston Huet. The association sees itself as the guardian and promoter of the enjoyment of life and the wines of Touraine, in particular the wines of Vouvray and its gastronomy. Its namesake or symbol is the wooden tap, the Chantepleure.

There are several thousand members worldwide. Several hundred "Chevaliers de la Chantepleure" come together at an annual event with gastronomic and musical events. In particular, the language culture of the popular French writer François Rabelais (1483/1494-1553) is cultivated: Emplir l'âme de toute vérité, de tout savoir, de toute philosophie (Fill the soul with all truth, all knowledge, all philosophy). In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
