Area classified as cru (top appellation) in the northern section of the Rhône. The name means river bend. The vineyards cover around 100 hectares of vineyards in seven communes on the right bank of the Rhône in the departments of Ardèche, Loire and Rhône over a distance of 20 kilometres. The vineyards, which often have an extremely steep incline, are located on terraces carved into the southern slopes of granite rock. They are among the steepest vineyards in Europe. The long-lasting white wine is made of Viognier and is similar to Château-Grillet. Partly it is still bottled in the traditional yellow bottles "Flûte de Condrieu". A lover of wine was the novelist Marie-Henri Stendhal (1783-1842). Well-known producers are Domaine du Chene, Clusel-Roch, Yves Cuilleron, Delas, Pierre Dumazet, Gangloff, Guigal, Jaboulet-Aîné, André Perret, Robert Niéro, Philippe Pichon, Domaine René Rostaing, Georges Vernay and Verzier.
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
