Comtés Rhodaniens

One of the seven regional IGP areas for the production of local wines in France. The name is derived from the Latin ‘Rhodanus’ (Rhône) and refers to the areas along this river. The other six are Atlantique, Comté Tolosan, Méditerranée, Pays d’Oc, Terres du Midi and Val de Loire. Until 2011, the region was known as ‘Vin de pays Comtés Rhodaniens’ and has borne the official designation ‘IGP Comtés Rhodaniens’ since 2012.

Indications of origin

The region is situated in south-eastern France and extends across parts of the Loire, Rhône and Savoy wine-growing regions. It comprises the nine départements of Ain, Ardèche, Drôme, Haute-Savoie, Isère, Loire, Rhône, Saône-et-Loire and Savoie. There are numerous AOC areas within this large region. As the vast majority of wines are produced in these areas, only a comparatively small proportion of production is marketed under the IGP Comtés Rhodaniens designation.
